Casa América presents this evening, at 7:00 p.m., the book ‘La democracia republicana en Cuba, 1940-1952‘ (Republican democracy in Cuba, 1940-1952). Actors, rules and electoral strategies, by Carlos Manuel Rodríguez Arechavaleta.
History is an ideological narrative constructed with a clear political interest. This has been the case of the republican history prior to 1959 in Cuba. For generations of Cubans born since the 1960s, the Republic has been synonymous with ‘Yankee’ intrusion, corruption, political degradation and poverty. However, a careful review of archives can give us a different and balanced image of the nuances of this period. The book deals meticulously with the only twelve years of representative democracy in the history of Cuba.
