The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America and Caribbean, Juan Pablo de Laiglesia and the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Ariel Bergamino, addressed the situation in Venezuela yesterday, following the proclamation of Juan Guaidó as president in charge of the country, which has not been recognized by the Government of Montevideo.
The two senior officials shared, according to a note from the Foreign Ministry, their «deep concern about the political and humanitarian crisis that Venezuela is going through» and exchanged information on the different initiatives under way in the international community to «reach a peaceful and democratic solution to the crisis in Venezuela through the call for elections». Uruguay, like Mexico, wants an international conference to address the Venezuelan crisis, something that Guaidó has rejected.
