A delegation headed by the director of Victim and Human Rights of the Basque Government, Monika Hernando, and made up of representatives of all the parties in the Commission of Human Rights and Equality of the Basque Parliament, this week made a visit to Honduras within a mission of Observation of Human Rights in that country.
The members of the delegation maintained contacts with non-governmental organizations of human rights and social movements, met with the Spanish ambassador in Tegucigalpa, Guillermo Kirkpatrick and with members of the Honduran Government and Parliament and visited several indigenous communities.
At the end of their visit, the delegation issued a statement in which, although they highlight some progress in the area of Human Rights, they express their concern about «the high degree of impunity» in the face of threats and violence against human rights defenders and some indigenous communities.
