Ana Botín and Jesús Calleja join España Global campaign 'This is the real Spain'

The Diplomat

The president of Banco Santander, Ana Patricia Botín, and the presenter and adventurer Jesús Calleja have joined This is the real Spain, an initiative of Global Spain to «spread the democratic, modern and diverse reality of our country» through personalities from the world of culture, economics and politics.

The audiovisual, promoted by the Secretary of State of España Global and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, already has the support – apart from Botín and Calleja – of the chef José Andrés, the molecular biologist María Blasco, the director Isabel Coixet and journalist Iñaki Gabilondo, as well as international figures, such as the OECD secretary general, the Mexican José Ángel Gurría, and the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, the Frenchman Pierre Moscovici, The objective is that , «gradually», will be added other representatives of the world of politics, business, culture and science.

The video, made by the creative Manu Cavanilles and subtitled in English, aims to disseminate among national and international public opinion «what Spain really is like, beyond interested and distorted topics and discourses that seek to damage the reputation of our country», according to reported España Global.

Spain is «a country with a consolidated democracy (as has been confirmed by The Economist‘s Democracy Index, which includes Spain as one of the only 20 full democracies on the planet), with levels of freedom at the level of our European neighbors (as Freedom House corroborates) and with a capacity for conciliation, integration and diversity referring throughout the world», added the Secretary of State.

«The Spanish Constitution has provided us with the framework for the longest period of liberties, social progress and economic prosperity in our history», says Ana Patricia Botín in the video.

This initiative is added to the strategy of country-reputation of Spain Global, headed by the Secretary of State, Irene Lozano, and that defends an image of the country «that we have been able to conform in these forty years of democracy under the shelter of the framework constitutional which we managed to endow us all».
