<h6><strong>The Diplomat</strong></h6> The Government of Peru has appointed the country's new ambassador to Spain to fill the vacancy left last December by <strong>José Antonio García Belaunde</strong>, appointed representative for Europe of the CAF-Development Bank of Latin America. The new ambassador will be <strong>Claudio Julio de la Puente Ribeyro</strong>, who is to take office on the eve of visit of Peruvian president, Martin Vizcarra, to Spain from February 27 to March 1. Vizcarra will meet King Felipe VI and the Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez. He will also attend the Congress, the City Council, a business forum and the opening of the ARCO Fair, in which Peru is this year the guest country. De la Puente is a career diplomat who was ambassador to Australia between 2005 and 2010, the year in which he became the General Director of America in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2014, during the Government of Ollanta Humala, he was Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and head of the Peruvian Diplomatic Service. In 2015 he was appointed ambassador in the United Kingdom and in 2017 permanent representative of Peru in the International Organizations based in Geneva. Since 2018, he was the representative of Peru before the United Nations Programs for the Environment and for Human Settlements.
