Spain announced the contribution of 600,000 euros to contribute to efforts aimed at resolving the serious crisis in Nicaragua, through dialogue and negotiation.

In a note issued late on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Spain will provide additional aid to the initiatives launched by the Organization of American States (OAS) to promote the resolution of the crisis. Specifically, it indicates that Spain «will continue contributing to OAS program of strengthening the democratic institutions in Nicaragua with 400,000 euros in addition to the 180,000 euros contributed so far».

In addition, «it considers essential to support the work being carried out by the two bodies set up at request of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).» «Thus, a contribution of 200,000 euros will be delivered to the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts and the Special Follow-up Mechanism for Nicaragua», states the note, which adds: «Spain maintains its commitment in favor of a solution to Nicaragua’s crisis free of violence, based on a process of democratic strengthening and inclusive dialogue, sincere and committed, and with the necessary work, without hindrance, by the international organizations already deployed in the country».

Along the same lines, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America and the Caribbean, Juan Pablo de Laiglesia, recently wrote in his Twitter account that «lasting solutions in Central America have always come hand in hand with dialogue and negotiation. «We appeal», he added, «to the cessation of all types of violence in Nicaragua and we support a national dialogue with guarantees and international accompaniment».
