Spain returns to Morocco 116 migrants who entered Ceuta last Wednesday

The Diplomat. 24/08/2018

Sopnish Government returned to Morocco 116 sub-Saharan migrants who on Wednesday jumped the fence of Ceuta, in application of an agreement signed between Madrid and Rabat in 1992 for the readmission of foreigners who enter irregularly into Spanish territory.

The Home Ministry contacted the Moroccan authorities to reactivate this mechanism of express returns shortly after July 26, when more than 600 migrants jumped the fence of Ceuta. The petition was attended immediately. Interior has not clarified if the agreement will apply to all people who skip the border fences of Ceuta and Melilla with Morocco.
