Spanish Government asked Romanian authorities the agrément to appoint ambassador of Spain in Bucharest to the diplomat Manuel Larrotcha Parada, replacing Ramiro Fernández Bachiller, The Diplomat learned from sources.
The Embassy of Spain in Romania is part of Group I in the classification of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since, in addition to being a member of the European Union, the Government is very aware that in Spain there are currently one million Romanians.
Larrotcha, who in the last three years has been Ambassador in Special Mission for Central Asia, after having been ambassador to Kazakhstan, was to be posted to Bogota as Consul General, but with the change of Government, the Foreign Minister, Josep Borrell, offered him to take charge of the Embassy in Romania.
The previous Executive had chosen Pedro Calvo-Sotelo to represent Spain in Bucharest. The current Ambassador to the Czech Republic was part of the Cabinet of former Foreign Minister José Manuel García-Margallo, with a special dedication to matters related to Catalonia.
Manuel Larotcha is a diplomat since 1983 and has been assigned to the Spanish diplomatic missions in Iraq, Ireland, the United States and Norway, the NTST and Turkey, where he was «number two». He has also served as Deputy Director General of International Disarmament Affairs, Head of the Asia and Pacific Economic Relations Area, Director of the Schengen Affairs Division, and Deputy Director General for Migration Affairs.
