The president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, intends to visit Spain, a trip which he was forced to postpone last May, next October 9 as part of a presentation tour by several European capitals, after having assumed the presidency of the country on March 11, The Diplomat learned.
After his trip to Brazil and Argentina, Piñera planned to travel to Madrid and Paris in the last week of May, but finally postponed the trip due to «agenda reasons». In the program of the visit to Spain was, in addition to a meeting with King Felipe VI, an interview with the then Chief Executive, Mariano Rajoy.
Now, although the program has not yet been closed, it is assumed that the meeting with the Spanish Monarch will continue and that there will be an interview with the current President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. However, Piñera and Sánchez will be seen before in Santiago, Chile, since the second is scheduled to travel to Chile on the 26th, in a tour of several Ibero-American countries.
Sebastián Piñera already made a state visit to Spain in March 2011, during his first presidential term and previously traveled to Madrid to participate in the EU-Latin America Summit.
Chile is currently the third destination of Spanish investments in Latin America, with a stock of more than 12,000 million euros, only behind Brazil and Mexico.
