Spanish Government congratulated yesterday former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet for her appointment as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, underlining that «her extensive experience and proven commitment to human rights represent a valuable asset for the effective functioning of the organization and its key role in improving the situation of human rights in the world».
The Foreign Ministry states in a note that «Spain supports the work of the Office of the High Commissioner in the conviction that the universal system for the promotion and protection of human rights based on dialogue and cooperation among States allows progress in the guarantee of the full exercise of these rights».
