People’s Party President, Pablo Casado, accused yesterday Venezuela’s President, Nicolás Maduro, of trying to boycott the inauguration of the new President of Colombia, Iván Duque, when he affirmed that the outgoing President, Juan Manuel Santos, is behind alleged attempted murder against him in Caracas.
Casado, who will attend the inauguration of Duque’s term in Bogota, said he will support the new Colombian President and to «any other government in the region that will defend freedom and democracy against populist Chavismo».
The Venezuelan government said that unknown persons had been the authors of the launching of drones with explosives during the commemoration of the 81th anniversary of the formation of the Bolivarian National Guard. Several soldiers were slightly injured, but Maduro, who was surprised by the detonation when he delivered his speech, was unhurt. He later accused the «far right Venezuelan in alliance with the Colombian far right» of the action and assured that the name of Juan Manuel Santos «was behind the attack».
