The British Hispanic Foundation recently celebrated the XXV anniversary of the Queen Victoria Eugenia Chair, a collaborative initiative between the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and the most prestigious British universities that, to date, has favored more than 30 Spanish researchers.

The event, chaired by the Infanta Margarita, was held on June 21 at the Auditorium of the Complutense University and was also attended by the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley; the president of the British Hispanic Foundation, Fidel López Álvarez; the rector of the Universidad Complutense, Carlos Andradas; and Gilliam Flaxman, director of the British Council School in Spain.

During her speeches, Infanta Margarita congratulated the convening organizations for promoting friendly relations between the two countries during the last twenty-five years and Ambassador Manley assured that the objective of his country is to maintain good relations between both nations when the exit is fulfilled of the United Kingdom of the EU.

The Queen Victoria Eugenia Chair, created in 1993, «constitutes a reaffirmation of the validity of the mission given by our Foundation, more important than ever in times of uncertainty such as those caused by Brexit», the British Hispanic Foundation stressed.

«The bonds created in the field of civil society must be the bonds that unite nations, their cultures and their peoples in order to promote mutual understanding, respect and collaboration», it added.

«Likewise, the opportunity that the Spanish fellows have enjoyed to broaden their knowledge in the best European research centers shows the coherence of the Foundation’s action in training Spanish research talent so that Spanish society as a whole also benefits from this educational investment”, it continued. «Throughout these 25 years, more than 30 Spanish researchers have benefited from the scholarships and more than 750 of the doctorate classes», it concluded.
