The French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, has awarded the Medal of Honor of Foreign Affairs to seven agents of the Consulate General of France in Madrid for their commitment to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils. August 17, 2017.
After the attack in Barcelona, both the French Embassy and the Consulates General of Barcelona and Madrid opened a crisis center, created a special hotline and transported their agents to assist French victims, according the Embassy.
In this context, seven agents from the Consulate General of Madrid visited the injured patients in the hospitals of Barcelona, met with the families, received a delegation from the urgent medical help service of Toulouse and from the medical-psychological emergency cell and put the Spanish medical personnel in contact with the insurance and repatriation companies.
The award ceremony took place on June 26 at the headquarters of the Consulate General of France in Madrid, in the presence of the Ambassador of France in Spain, Yves Saint-Geours, of the Consul General of France in Madrid, Cédric Prieto, and of the families and companions of the decorated ones.
