The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will expound the main lines of foreign policy in a debate before the Congress to take place on Tuesday, July 10, according to information provided to The Diplomat by reliable sources.

Sánchez wants to use that debate to bring up some initiatives and proposals with the parliamentary forces, both in international policy and in other sectorial areas. The fact that the NATO summit in Brussels is taking place on July 11 and 12 will unavoidably make the president of the Government refer to it in that debate.

The socialist leader could barely refer to Spain’s international policy in the debate of the no-confidence motion at the beginning of June that took him to power. On that occasion, Sánchez revealed that his government would be “firmly pro-European” and “responsible for the budgetary and economic stability”.

“As I have previously said, the stability program I propose to the Chamber is a program whose second point corresponds to the budgetary and macroeconomic stability. I want to commit before this Chamber, Your Honors, first of all, to fulfill the obligations derived as a member State of the European Union”, he pointed out as regards Europe.
