Moncloa attributed yesterday to a mistake the fact that the Council of Ministers informed of the approval of a Royal Decree by which King Juan Carlos was conferred the representation of Spain in the acts of inauguration of the presidency of Iván Duque in Colombia, which will take place next August 7.
Colombia has become one of the main focuses of Spanish foreign policy in Ibero-America, as revealed by the various official trips made to our country by the outgoing president, Juan Manuel Santos, and the very recent visit to Madrid by Iván Duque.
Precisely, the first trip abroad King Juan Carlos I did, since his abdication in June 2014, was to Colombia to represent Spain in the investiture of Santos.
Since then, the King emeritus has attended the inauguration of several Ibero-American presidents, such as those of Uruguay, Tabaré Vázquez (February 2015); Argentina, Mauricio Macri (December 2015); Guatemala, Jimmy Morales (January 2016); Peru, Pedro Pablo Kuczysnki (July 2016): Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina (August 2016); or Chile, Sebastián Piñera (March of this year).
