The government will appoint Miguel Ángel Fernández-Palacios as Spain’s new ambassador to NATO, according to reliable sources told The Diplomat.
Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1965, Fernández-Palacios was ambassador in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Ethiopia and currently serves as counselor for Parliamentary Affairs in the Permanent Representation of Spain before the European Union.
Fernández-Palacios was also responsible for the United Nations and Western Europe in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and advisor for International Affairs of the Minister of Defense.
In 2005, he was appointed general director of the cabinet of the Minister of Defense and, after passing through the DRC, in 2008 he assumed the General Directorate of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Congress of Deputies, in both cases serving the veteran socialist politician José Bono .
