The Embassy of Cyprus celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Spain on Wednesday with a concert of the soprano Vivianna Giannaki and the guitarist Mariano Gil, at the Higher School of Singing of Madrid.

Ambassador Koula Sophianou emphasized the “close friendship that unites both countries” by going over it before presenting the logo of the 50th anniversary, made by Lara, a 13-year-old student of the Special Education School of the Niño Jesús Hospital.

At the end of the concert, the Embassy offered those present one the great wonders of the Mediterranean island, its wine Comandería, the world’s oldest wine, with 30,000 years of history. A wine that Ricardo Corazón de León described as “the king of wines and the wine of kings” when he tried it during the festivities of his wedding with Berenguela of Navarre, celebrated in the Cypriot city of Limassol on May 12, 1191.
