The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, expressed yesterday, on their Twitter accounts, their condolences and their solidarity with the Greek Government for the fires that have caused the death of 50 people in the surrounding area of Athens.
Sanchez also recalled that Spain has already activated the European Civil Protection Mechanisms to send two amphibious planes to help control and extinguish the fires. Those are two Canadair planes, each with a capacity of 5,500 liters. The aid was requested by the Greek authorities, who finally decided yesterday that it was not necessary for the planes to travel to Greece.
