Fernando Fernán Gómez’s work ‘Las bicicletas son para el verano’ (Bicycles are for summer) is represented until next July 26 at the Centro Cultural de la Villa (Plaza de Colón, 4). This is one of the most representative texts of contemporary Spanish theater, and the best and most celebrated of its author.
In the summer of 1936 the Civil War broke out. In the city of Madrid, the family formed by Don Luis, his wife Dolores and their children, Manolita and Luisito, share the daily life of the war with the maid and the neighbors of the building. Luisito, despite failing his exams, wants his father to buy him a bicycle. But the situation will force to postpone the purchase. And the delay, like the war itself, will last much longer than expected.
