Promoting and disseminating knowledge about Poland through various cultural activities is the aim of the trip of Polish Navy’s training ship ‘Dar Młodzieży’, which visited Santa Cruz de Tenerife for three days, from 10 to 12 July.
During these three days, visitors had the opportunity to visit the ship and participate in an extensive program of cultural activities organized by the Polish Embassy in collaboration with the Polish Tourism Organization and the Association of Poles of Tenerife ‘Arka’.
The year 2018 is loaded with very special emotions for Polish citizens, as this country commemorates the centenary of the recovery of its independence. To celebrate «with the whole world,» as the Polish Embassy indicates in a press release, a round-the-world trip has been scheduled for its most prestigious vessel -the famous three-masted frigate and training ship of its Navy, ‘Dar Młodzieży’-, built in 1982 at the Gdansk shipyard. The name of the boat means, in English, Gift of Youth.
The frigate sailed away on May 20 from Gdynia to undertake «a fascinating journey around the world turning its flag into a piece of history about the independence of Poland», the statement says.
After leaving Gdynia, the ship reached the ports of Bordeaux and Tenerife. Her next stops will be Dakar, Cape Town, Mauritius, Jakarta, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Osaka, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Manzanillo, Panama, New York, Harta and Antwerp.
The organizers of the cruise are the Maritime University of Gdynia and the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Fluvial Navigation. The ‘Dar Młodzieży’ will arrive in January 2019 in Panama, where her young sailors’ crew will participate in the 34th World Youth Day.
