The diplomat Cecilia Yuste, current ambassador of Spain to Belgium, will join the Bank of Santander next September, to take over the Directorate of Institutional Relations, which until recently was also occupied by the diplomat José María Robles Fraga.
According to information provided to The Diplomat, Cecilia Yuste had agreed to take over this position at Banco de Santander before the change of Government took place and after Robles Fraga requested his re-entry into the Diplomatic Career to be appointed Ambassador to Turkey. The change in La Moncloa paralyzed the appointment of Robles Fraga, for whom Ankara had already granted the agrément, and now his destination will be Lithuania.
With regard to Cecilia Yuste, her vacancy at the Embassy in Brussels will be covered by Betariz Larrotcha, who was dismissed last week as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Cecilia Yuste was appointed ambassador to Belgium in December 2016, after having been the General Director of the Diplomatic Information Office (OID) for five years and holding various positions in the Permanent Representation to the EU, the Philippines, Argentina and Russia. His time in Brussels has been marked by the presence in the Belgian capital of Catalan independence leaders escaped from the Spanish Justice.
