The Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Ibero-America and the Caribbean, Juan Pablo de Laiglesia, held a bilateral meeting in Brussels with Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abelardo Moreno, in what has been the first meeting of a senior member of Pedro Sánchez’s Government with a Cuban leader.
The rendezvous took place in the margins of the EU-CELAC ministerial meeting. De Laiglesia expressed to Moreno, according to a note from the Foreign Ministry, «the confidence of Spain that the new Government can successfully solve the important challenges that Cuba faces today and undertake the pending reforms». Laiglesia also revealed the Spanish availability to help Cuba in that endeavor and accompany it in its transformation process».
