The Spanish government welcomed yesterday the tenth anniversary of the creation of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), an international organization based in Barcelona that was founded on July 13, 2008 and has 43 member states.
In a statement, the Government recalled that the UfM was created at the initiative of the heads of state and government meeting in Paris, which «agreed to institutionalize the Barcelona Process, which with the determined momentum of Spain had promoted since 1995 a close partnership between the European Union and the 15 countries of the south bank to promote peace, stability and security in the Mediterranean».
Coinciding with this X Anniversary, continued the Executive, the UfM will hold in Barcelona on October 8 its III Regional Forum, which will involve the foreign ministers of the 43 member countries and that «will serve to give a new impetus to dialogue policy and cooperation in concrete projects in order to jointly overcome the challenges that affect the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean region».
