Tomorrow, July 13, the film Mary Shelley premieres in Spain. The film narrates the relationship between the romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and the young Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, which resulted in the writing of one of the most important novels of the universal literature that was published 200 years ago, Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus.
Facing the opposition of Mary’s family to their relationship, the couple decides to run away. During a stay at Lord Byron’s house in Geneva, Mary conceives the idea of Frankenstein, when, as a game, all the guests are proposed to write a story about ghosts. However, the society of that moment, grants null value to female writers and, being only 18, Mary was forced to defy the prejudices to protect her work and create her own identity.
