Ten students of Dominican origin resident in Spain have been given the School Merit Awards granted every year by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic. Those awarded are: Iván Dono Doñe (Galicia), Paula Yáñez Guerrero, Snely F. Florián, Ainhoa Ligthbourn Catano (Madrid), Gabriel David Silvestre, Samuel David Fernández Sosa (Valencia); Nicole Marie García Alcántara, Juan Antonio Domínguez Piña, Daniela Sánchez Álvarez and Arantxa Esther González Báez (Andalusia).
The School Merit Awards, established in 2005 and backed by the Dominican ministers of Education and Tourism, and by the García Arévalo Foundation, have the objective of recognizing the academic excellence and the civic behavior of the students. The ten students selected will enjoy a cultural trip to the Dominican Republic in August.
