The Government of Pedro Sanchez has appointed the new director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) to the former socialist mayor of Palma de Mallorca Aina Calvo, as confirmed by the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands (PSIB).
The appointment, which has still to be made official by the Governing Council during its meeting this Friday, was proposed today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, Josep Borrell, and by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America and the Caribbean, Juan Pablo de Laiglesia.
Aina Calvo, born in Palma de Mallorca in 1969, has a degree in Philosophy and Letters, a PhD in Educational Sciences and a full professor in the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Applied Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands.
In addition to mayoress of Palma between 2007 and 2011, she was a socialist deputy in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands between 2003 and 2004 and belonged between 2004 and 2006 to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as deputy general director of Cooperation and Foreign Cultural Promotion, within the General Direction of Cultural and Scientific Relations.
