The Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, has appointed Omar Said Omar Al Kathiri as Oman’s new ambassador to Spain, replacing Kifaya Khamis Al Raisi, who has held the post since April 2014.

Omar Al Kathiri, who will soon take up his post, was until now advisor to the Omani Foreign Minister, and is already familiar with our country and our language, since before beginning his diplomatic career in 2002, he completed a Master’s degree in International Relations at the Diplomatic School in Madrid.

Subsequently, Al Kathiri worked in the American affairs department at the Ministry and was deputy director of the South America division. He has also been posted to the US Embassy in Washington, the Permanent Representation of Oman to the United Nations in New York and the Embassy in Canada.

Although Spain will be his first post as Head of Mission, he has already served as Chargé d’Affaires of Oman in Brazil in 2010.
