On Monday, Turkey’s Ambassador, Ömer Önhon, wished “Spain success” so that “the situation that is taking place (referring to the Catalan crisis, the main topic of conversation in all groups) is solved within the framework of the Constitution and the laws of Spain, and based on the wishes of the Spanish people and the country’s territorial unity”.
During the reception he offered on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey, Önhon (in the above photo, during his speech) said that relations between both countries “are satisfactory in all fields” and announced that both governments intend to organize a bilateral summit at the beginning of next year.
After emphasizing that bilateral contacts take place regularly and that an increase of 0-10% of business exchanges is expected compared to 2016, -when they amounted to 10,260 million euros- Önhon was glad about the mutual interest of companies in both countries: 600 Spanish companies are present in Turkey whereas Turkish investors are more and more interested in Spain. “There will be much more projects in the near future”, he concluded.
The reception, celebrated at the Villa Magna Hotel, was attended by the secretary of State for Tourism, Matilde Asián; the Popular Party’s MP, José María Chiquillo; the former Foreign Minister, Miguel Ángel Moratinos; and many ambassadors, among them those of Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Bosnia, Finland, Greece, Israel, Luxembourg, Pakistan, Palestine, Paraguay, Romania, Russia, Serbia, South Africa and Thailand.
