King Felipe VI affirmed yesterday before the British Parliament, on the occasion of his visit of State to the United Kingdom, that, throughout their “rich history”, both countries have experienced “distance, rivalry and disputes” that have been “consigned to the past” thanks to the “work and determination of our Governments, authorities and citizens”.
Therefore, the monarch was “confident” that “this resolution to overcome our differences will be even bigger in the case of Gibraltar”. “I hope that, through dialogue and the necessary efforts, our two governments can move towards solutions acceptable for all the parties involved”, he pointed out.
In response to these words, the Gibraltarian Government of Fabián Picardo declared in a statement that the position of Felipe VI, who “focuses on bilateral dialogue between London and Madrid”, is “antidemocratic”, because “it completely ignores the existence of Gibraltar”.
