“We have a close and cordial relationship with Spain that we hope to continue to intensify and to extend to more fields in the coming years”, Pakistan’s new Ambassador, Khayyam Akbar, affirmed during the reception offered in his residence to celebrate the National Day of his country.
In the presence of the director general for Asia-Pacific, Fidel Sendagorta (in the above photo, both greet each other at his arrival, in the presence of his wife, Lubna Khayyam, and the counsellor Shadzad Hussein), the Pakistani Ambassador emphasized the good prospects projected by the recent visit to Islamabad of the secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ildefonso Castro, in the political cooperation, where the anti-terrorist fight is a fundamental issue for both countries.
The Ambassador expressed his wish for trade relations to increase, along the same lines of the last years, and he was glad about the “constant expansion” of the Pakistani exports, which, as Sendagorta pointed out, “is also due to the presence of many Spanish textile companies” in Pakistan, where Spain has recently strengthened its Embassy with a new business attaché.
Both of them expressed their commitment to the Pakistani community in Spain, “well established and integrated” and that “has come to enrich Spain’s plurality”.
The reception was attended by numerous ambassadors, among them, those of India, Bangladesh, Thailand, China, Turkey, Albania and Gambia.
