The Council of Ministers approved the signing of the Framework Agreement for Partnership and Cooperation between the European Union and its Member States, on the one hand, and Malaysia on the other. It is the first agreement negotiated between Brussels and Kuala Lumpur and replaces the current legal framework of the Cooperation Agreement between the EU and the ASEAN member countries.
The objective of the Agreement is to strengthen cooperation in a wide range of policy areas and pursues the protection of the EU’s financial interests. It also presents a chapter on trade cooperation, which paves the way to finalize the current negotiations of the Free Trade Agreement.
