The European Institutions in Spain will celebrate this week several events in Madrid to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome, which gave rise to the current European Union.
The celebrations in Spain advance in several days to the central event, which will take place in Rome on 25 March and which will be attended by 27 Heads of State and Government of several European countries, together with the presidents of the European Parliament and the European Commission.
That day marks exactly 60 years of the signing in the Italian capital of the two Treaties established by the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom).
One of the highlights in Spain will take place on Thursday in the Congress of Deputies, where the president of the House, Ana Pastor, will preside over an institutional event that will meet senior officials of Spanish and European politics and representatives of several Embassies and civil society.
The celebrations in Spain are ahead of the central event, which will take place in Rome on March 25
Among the attendees will be Alfonso Dastis, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Miguel Arias Cañete, European Commissioner for Action on Climate and Energy; Ramón Luis Valcárcel, Vice-President of the European Parliament; and Stefano Sannino, Italian ambassador to Spain.
The previous day, Wednesday 22 March, Stefano Sannino himself will participate in a debate on the past, present and future of the EU, which will also be attended by Aránzazu Beristain, director of the Representation of the European Commission in Spain; and María Andrés, director of the Office of the European Parliament in Spain.
The event, to be held at the headquarters of the European Institutions in Spain and organized by the Association of Foreign Diplomats in Spain (ADE), will focus mainly on diplomats from embassies accredited in Spain and, in particular, from Non-EU countries.
On Friday, at 13 o’clock, will be held at the Italian Embassy an institutional act of permanent installation of the EU flag on the balcony of the Residence of the Embassy.
